GM China Sustains Growth with Strong NEV Momentum

Oct 9, 2025

SHANGHAI - General Motors and its joint ventures in China continued to build strong momentum in Q3, delivering nearly 470,000 units with a 10.1% increase from a year earlier. This marks the company's second consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth in both sales and market share in 2025.

GM's new energy vehicle (NEV) lineup continued to lead the way. Both NEV and BEV sales have now recorded year-over-year growth for 10 consecutive quarters since Q2 2023.

"Our strong Q3 performance and broad-based growth once again underscore the steady progress we are making in China," said Steve Hill, GM senior vice president and president of GM China. "Building on GM's global standards and leveraging local innovation and partnerships, we will continue to enhance product value and customer experience, laying a solid foundation for profitable growth for the full year."

Driving NEV strategy forward

GM's NEV sales momentum is powered by the most comprehensive portfolio among global OEMs in China, including pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and extended range electric vehicles (EREVs) across key segments.

Buick's premium NEV sub-brand ELECTRA rolled out its first model - the ELECTRA L7 - in September, following its launch in Q2. The model, built on GM's locally developed Xiao Yao super architecture, has been met with enthusiastic market reception. It also features the Xiao Yao assisted driving system co-developed by Buick and Momenta.

From 2025 onward, all new Buick models introduced in China will be NEVs, fully covering the BEV, PHEV and EREV segments across mainstream price ranges. The brand's first flagship MPV ENCASA under the ELECTRA lineup is scheduled to launch by the end of the year.

Powering growth through core product success

Buick brand sales surged 54.3% from a year earlier. The Buick GL8 family delivered over 34,000 units, up 24.5% from a year earlier, further strengthening its long-term leadership in China's MPV segment. With the launch of the refreshed GL8 and GL8 Lu Shang, the GL8 lineup now offers models spanning mainstream to luxury, offering both ICE and electrified options to meet diverse customer needs.

The Buick Envision SUV family and LaCrosse continued strong momentum in Q3, with sales more than tripling and nearly quadrupling year-over-year, respectively.

Cadillac brand sales are up 11.2% from a year earlier. The all-new Cadillac XT5, launched a year ago, continued strong performance, with year-over-year sales nearly doubling in Q3 to reaffirm its solid position in the luxury SUV market.

The Wuling Hong Guang MINIEV family delivered around 117,000 units in Q3, with the newly launched four-door version contributing over 77,000 units. It remained GM's best-selling NEV nameplate in China. In addition, the Wuling Bin Guo and Bin Guo PLUS together recorded nearly 39,000 units in sales.

General Motors (NYSE:GM) is driving the future of transportation, leveraging advanced technology to build safer, smarter, and lower emission cars, trucks, and SUVs. GM's Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Baojun, and Wuling brands offer a broad portfolio of innovative gasoline-powered vehicles and the industry's widest range of EVs, as we move to an all-electric future.
