Honored in the Fiscal Savvy and Funding Innovation Category by the Lead Service Line Replacement Collaborative; Award to be presented at ACE26 conference & exposition in June
WILMINGTON- The City of Wilmington is proud to announce that Wilmington Water is the winner of a national award for its Lead Reduction Program from the Lead Service Line Replacement Collaborative (LSLR Collaborative). The LSLR Collaborative brings together water utilities, public health groups, environmental organizations, and regulators to focus on getting lead service lines out of the ground. Wilmington Water is being honored under the Fiscal Savvy and Funding Innovation Category because of its approach to funding its lead service line replacement program.
Securing funding for lead service line replacement programs is a challenge for thousands of water utilities across the country. Wilmington Water is effectively addressing this task by working through Delaware's State Revolving Fund (SRF), an EPA-state partnership program that provides low-interest loans for water infrastructure projects. The City is also using creative local strategies to construct its Lead Reduction Program in a way that is both impactful and fiscally smart.
As a result of its efforts to protect public health, Wilmington Water's approach is gaining national recognition because it sets an example for communities across the country. The City will receive its award during the American Water Works Association's Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE26) in Washington D.C. ACE26 is one of the largest water conferences in the world, bringing together thousands of water utility, industry, and regulatory leaders.
"Receiving a major award for our Lead Reduction Program is an extraordinary moment for everyone within Wilmington Water. It's recognition of the hard work being conducted by our staff to protect their health of the City's residents," said Kelly Williams, Commissioner, Wilmington Department of Public Works. "We're proud to set an example for water utilities nationwide and look forward to being honored at ACE later this year."
