Washington, DC - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24), this week supported a series of House Republican measures aimed at combating fraud, preventing improper payments, and strengthening accountability across federal programs.
The House advanced four pieces of legislation designed to stop taxpayer dollars from being lost to fraud and abuse. The No Aid for Ghost Students Act (H.R. 7892) strengthens identity verification requirements to prevent fraudsters from stealing federal student aid using fake or stolen identities. The Stopping Fraudulent Payments Act (H.R. 8464) requires agencies to verify payments before funds are distributed to prevent fraudulent and improper payments. The Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act (H.R. 8312) establishes permanent government-wide anti-fraud oversight tools to help detect and prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. The House also passed H. Res. 1335, a resolution condemning those who seek to defraud the federal government and supporting reforms that verify eligibility before taxpayer funds are distributed. Together, these measures strengthen oversight, improve accountability, and help ensure federal resources are directed to the Americans they are intended to serve.
"Every dollar lost to fraud is a dollar stolen from hardworking taxpayers and from the families, students, and seniors these programs are intended to serve," said Congresswoman Tenney. "The same Democrats who claim to care about working families are defending wasteful spending and attacking efforts to expose fraud. You cannot be for taxpayers while protecting the people wasting their money. These commonsense reforms strengthen accountability, stop fraud before it happens, and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. We must have a government that protects hard-earned money, not one that turns a blind eye to waste, fraud, and abuse."
