Marion County Honors Waste and Recycling Workers Week

Waste and Recycling Workers Week, observed June 15-20, recognizes the dedicated men and women who help keep Marion County clean, healthy, and safe every day. These essential workers are often the unseen backbone of our community, collecting, transporting, and processing waste and recyclables while protecting public health and supporting environmental sustainability.

Their work is physically demanding and often performed in challenging weather and hazardous conditions. In fact, waste and recycling collection is considered one of the most dangerous occupations in the nation due to risks associated with traffic, heavy equipment, and other workplace hazards.

Beyond keeping our community clean, these professionals play a critical role in protecting natural resources, reducing pollution, and ensuring our county remains a healthy place to live, work, and raise a family. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service make a lasting impact on the quality of life we enjoy throughout Marion County.

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners encourages all residents to take a moment during Waste and Recycling Workers Week to thank these hardworking individuals and remember that something as simple as slowing down and using extra caution around collection vehicles can help keep these essential workers safe.
