Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs attends celebration of 215th Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico and 50th Anniversary of Thailand - Mexico Diplomatic Relations
On 26 September 2025, Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary and former Ambassador of Thailand to Mexico, attended the Reception on the Occasion of the 215th Anniversary of the Independence of the United Mexican States and the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Mexico at the Athenee Hotel Bangkok.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary delivered opening remarks alongside H.E. Ms. Ilse Lilián Ferrer Silva, Ambassador of Mexico to Thailand, highlighting the close and cordial relations between Thailand and Mexico over the past five decades encompassing political, economic, technical, cultural and multilateral cooperation. He also reflected on his experience as a previous Ambassador to Mexico, particularly in advancing bilateral trade and investment, and promoting Thai soft power in Mexico-through music, Muay Thai, and Thai Boys' Love (BL) Girls' Love (GL) series, which have gained popularity among Mexican youth. He reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding collaboration with Mexico in the years to come.
Thailand and Mexico established diplomatic relations on 28 August 1975. To commemorate the 50th anniversary this year, both countries have organized a wide range of celebratory activities throughout the year, including a Thai Festival in Mexico City and cultural events showcasing Mexican art, music, and cuisine in Thailand. Mexico is currently Thailand's second-largest trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2024, bilateral trade reached over USD 5.6 billion, representing a 19% increase from the previous year.
