ABA Commends FCC on Proposals to Strengthen Fraud Protections and Modernize Calling Rules

"We commend Chairman Carr and the FCC for taking this important step forward in the fight against fraud. It is too easy for fraudsters to spoof real bank names on Caller ID, and today's FCC vote advancing a proposal to strengthen the call authentication framework will help protect consumers and legitimate businesses. We look forward to reviewing the proposal and working with the Commission to combat fraud.

"We also welcome the FCC's proposed updates to its telecommunications rules. Timely and secure communication is essential for banks to serve their customers-especially when delivering fraud alerts, data breach notifications, and servicing messages. For too long, regulatory barriers have hindered these efforts. Today's proposal includes common-sense reforms that would enable banks to communicate more effectively and better protect their customers."
