The EU and Armenia Strengthen Civil Protection Cooperation with New Administrative Arrangement

Ahead of the first-ever EU-Armenia Summit, the EU-through its Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO)-and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia signed an Administrative Arrangement, marking a major step forward strengthening disaster resilience. The Arrangement opens a new phase of collaboration in civil protection, strengthening emergency response, information exchange, and capacity building.

Key areas of focus include:

• Enhanced information exchange during emergencies, ensuring swift and coordinated responses to disasters.
• Sharing of expertise and best practices, allowing both sides to learn from one another and improve disaster preparedness.
• Joint participation in exercises, seminars, and workshops.
• Support across all phases of disaster risk management, from prevention and preparedness to response and recovery.

Speaking on the occasion, Director-General of DG ECHO, Mr Maciej Popowski, stated: "This Administrative Arrangement reflects our strong partnership with Armenia. It lays the groundwork for closer cooperation and shared learning in the area of civil protection. We remain committed to supporting Armenia in building a more resilient civil protection system, which benefits not only Armenia but the wider region."

Mr Armen Ghazaryan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, added: "With the signing of the Administrative Arrangement, we have laid the foundation for strengthened cooperation with DG ECHO".
