Natural decrease, positive net migration
In the 1st quarter of 2026, natural decrease (−1,658) and positive net migration (2,936) were recorded.
Fewer live births and fewer deaths
In the first quarter of 2026, 3,987 live births and 5,645 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the first quarter of 2025, the number of live births was 76 (2%) lower, and the number of deaths 164 (3%) lower. In a year, the value of natural decrease changed from −3.3 per 1,000 population to −3.1 per 1,000 population.
Fewer marriages and more divorces
In the observed period, 747 couples were married or 12 couples (2%) fewer than in the first quarter of 2025. 563 couples were divorced or 33 (6%) more than in the first quarter of 2025.
Decrease in internal migration
In the first quarter of 2026, 26,938 people migrated internally, which is 3% fewer than in the same period of 2025.
More immigrants and fewer emigrants
Compared to the same period of 2025, the number of immigrants to Slovenia increased by 10% to 8,380. The number of emigrants decreased by 10% to 5,444. The number of citizens of Slovenia who emigrated abroad (1,206) was lower than the number of foreigners (4,238).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (3,239 persons), while 303 Slovene citizens more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
