API Names Paul Lindsay as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs

WASHINGTON, July 21, 2026 - The American Petroleum Institute (API) today announced that Paul Lindsay will join the organization as its new Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, effective August 31. Lindsay will lead API's integrated public affairs team to advance the U.S. oil and natural gas industry's priorities in Washington and across the country.

"At a time of growing energy demand and heightened focus on affordability, reliability and national security, the importance of American oil and natural gas has never been clearer," said API President and CEO Mike Sommers. "Paul understands how to build coalitions, lead effective advocacy campaigns and communicate complex policy challenges. He is a great addition to our leadership team as we continue advancing policies that strengthen American energy leadership."

"Strengthening America's energy security is more important than ever, and there is no better organization than API to confront that challenge," said Lindsay. "It's an honor to join this team and help tell the story of an industry that powers nearly every aspect of modern American life. I'm looking forward to working alongside API's members to advance policies to help meet the growing demand for affordable, reliable energy."

Lindsay brings more than 20 years of experience leading public affairs, strategic communications, advocacy campaigns and stakeholder engagement efforts across business, government and politics. Most recently, he served as Head of Global Public Affairs at Intuit, where he built the company's public affairs function and led federal and global advocacy strategies.

At API, Lindsay will work with leaders across the organization to strengthen the association's advocacy, communications, grassroots and public engagement efforts in support of API's mission and its members.

Lindsay will succeed current Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Rolf Hanson, who is retiring after nearly 30 years at API. Hanson led API's public affairs and state advocacy strategy and is a highly respected leader across the organization.

The American Petroleum Institute (API) represents all segments of America's oil and natural gas industry, supporting nearly 11 million U.S. jobs. With approximately 600 members, API companies produce, process, and distribute the majority of the nation's energy. Founded in 1919, API has developed over 800 standards to enhance operational and environmental safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
