Today, Trump's Department of Justice released another tranche of Epstein Files, 42 days overdue from the Congressionally-mandated deadline of December 19. Today's documents total 3 million - only half of what was collected by the DOJ over the course of the investigation, in direct violation of the law.
The documents, some of which were taken down and reposted with redactions, contain a number of tips mentioning Donald Trump. According to the New York Times, DOJ officials assembled a summary of "more than a dozen tips" received about Trump and Epstein, which included "accusations of sexual abuse by Mr. Epstein and Mr. Trump." Emails in the release suggested that investigators followed up on some of the tips.
In addition, the documents also reveal that now-Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick planned a trip to Epstein's private island in 2012, years after Lutnick claimed that he and his wife toured Epstein's home in Manhattan with him in 2005. Lutnick had claimed that after the 2005 visit, he and his wife vowed to "never be in a room with that disgusting person ever again."
At every turn over the last year, the Trump administration has attempted to delay and stonewall the release of the files.
DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:
"Donald Trump and his Department of Justice have attempted a massive cover-up, but the American people want answers. Democrats have been dogged in their pursuit of justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, and we will continue to demand transparency, including the 3 million documents the DOJ still refuses to release. If these are the kinds of disgusting allegations that are in the first batch, it is horrifying to imagine what they are hiding. Release all the files."
