IDSA statement on immigration enforcement and access to health care

The Infectious Diseases Society of America is alarmed by reports of immigration enforcement activity occurring near health care settings. Fear of seeking health care puts individual patients at risk and threatens the health of entire communities, including by delaying the timely identification and treatment of infectious diseases. Hospitals and clinics must remain places where people can safely seek and receive health care. Health care professionals must be able to do their jobs without barriers that undermine patient trust or compromise care. Protecting access to care is essential to safeguarding public health.
