As the agricultural and livestock sectors seek to balance productivity with environmental sustainability, innovative technologies are playing an increasingly important role. RumenAI is developing an AI-powered solution designed to monitor and optimise digestive processes in cattle, improving animal health and productivity while reducing methane emissions. To accelerate its development and prepare for market deployment, the company sought support from Green Assist.
A new approach to livestock monitoring
RumenAI is developing a patented sensing technology capable of continuously monitoring the fermentative processes in individual cattle. Combined with artificial intelligence and machine learning, the system generates actionable insights that can help farmers optimise feeding strategies, improve herd management and prevent health issues.
The project aims to increase milk and meat yields by more than 10%, reduce the incidence of common farm metabolic disorders by up to 50%, and monitor methane formation and emissions with more than 90% accuracy. By providing real-time information at animal level, the technology supports more efficient and sustainable livestock production.
Supporting productivity while reducing emissions
Beyond improving farm performance, the solution has the potential to contribute to more climate-smart livestock farming. Methane emissions from livestock are among the most significant sources of greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture. However, farmers currently have limited tools to monitor methane production at individual animal level and assess the effectiveness of mitigation strategies.
Through its "Sensing as a Service" model, RumenAI will collect, analyse and interpret the data on digestive processes and methane formation in cattle using AI, transforming complex biological information into practical recommendations for farmers. This approach can help identify targeted methane abatement opportunities, enabling producers to evaluate the impact of feeding strategies and management practices while reducing emissions by up to 30%.
The company is now working towards industrial design of their minimum viable product, farm testing and business model assessment.
Green Assist support to strengthen strategy and market readiness
To support the next stage of development, RumenAI partnered with Green Assist and received specialised advisory services between June and October 2025.
The advisory support focused on two key areas. First, Green Assist expert helped the company strengthen its financing and funding strategy through financial modelling and investment planning, including guidance on private equity, venture capital and other financing mechanisms. Second, Green Assist provided environmental validation services, including environmental impact assessment and life-cycle analysis. This support helped strengthen the project's sustainability credentials and align its innovation with broader environmental objectives.
Green Assist also played an important role in helping the company prepare for growth. Following the advisory services, the project reached a mature stage and is now ready for implementation while actively seeking investors.
Several key milestones have already been achieved, including the establishment of strategic partnerships, acceptance into the ESA Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) NRW, securing €50,000 in funding, and participation in the RWTH Incubation Program - Spring Batch '26, where the company further strengthened its business model and go-to-market strategy. The project is currently under evaluation for a regional innovation grant to support the development of its Minimum Viable Product (MVP), which would further accelerate its path toward commercialisation.
José A. Laporte-Uribe, Founder & CEO of RumenAI, commented:
"Green Assist has been instrumental in accelerating RumenAI's development. The expert helped us structure our information, strengthen our business model, and identify the most suitable funding opportunities. Thanks to this support, we can confidently discuss the project with investors, knowing that our plans are robust, well prepared, and financially sound. The advisory process has significantly strengthened our investment readiness, advanced our sustainability strategy, and helped position RumenAI for the next stage of development and commercialisation."
Green Assist aims to build a pipeline for high-impact green investment projects in sectors related to biodiversity, natural capital and circular economy, as well as in non-environmental sectors.
