COLUMBUS - State Representative Mike Odioso (R-Green Twp.) is excited to announce the leadership and creation of the bipartisan, bicameral Developmental Disabilities (DD) Legislative Caucus, with Caucus Co-Chairs Representative Crystal Lett (D-Columbus), Senator George Lang (R-West Chester), and Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus).
"When Representative Lett and I brainstormed ideas to promote our shared passion to be a strong legislative voice for the entire I/DD community, it was rooted in our shared personal experiences in raising children with special needs," said Rep. Odioso. "Creating this new DD Legislative Caucus is a foundational step."
The newly formed DD Legislative Caucus held its first well-attended meeting on Monday, May 11th, at The Childhood League Center in Columbus. Panelists included the caucus co-chairs, Ohio Department of Children and Youth Director Kara Wente, and Ohio Department of Developmental Disability Medical Director Dr. Laura Sorg.
"I will make sure individuals with developmental disabilities and their families have advocates at the Statehouse who are listening to their experiences and fighting for their needs," said Rep. Lett. "This caucus will help bring attention to the policies that can improve and expand opportunities. I'm proud to work alongside my colleagues and community to build a more inclusive Ohio where every person has the support and resources they need."
The DD Legislative Caucus serves as a collaborative forum dedicated to advancing policies, sharing experiences, and supporting initiatives that improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families across Ohio.
