March 4, 2026 - Defence Stories
Today marks another important moment for the Defence Team as we move forward with changes in our senior leadership to strengthen how the Department of National Defence (DND), the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) work together in support of our shared mandate.
As announced by the Prime Minister, Kevin Brosseau has been named the new Senior Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence and Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG). In addition to assuming these new responsibilities, he will continue serving as Commissioner in Canada's Fight Against Fentanyl. Kevin brings extensive experience across the federal public service, including senior leadership roles in public safety, security, operations, and organizational transformation. His deep operational expertise gained at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Fisheries and Oceans Canada and his commitment to serving Canadians make him exceptionally well-positioned to take on this expanded mandate.
Kevin's appointment comes at a pivotal time as DND, the CAF, and CCG continue strengthening operational readiness, supporting transition efforts, and advancing key priorities in maritime safety, emergency response, and national security. It also positions CCG as an integral element within the Defence Team, enhancing our ability to deliver results for Canadians.
We would also like to express our thanks to Marc Mes who has served as Acting Commissioner since Mario Pelletier's retirement on January 29.
Natasha Kim will continue in her role as Associate Deputy Minister to ensure we are well-positioned to deliver on the government's commitment to building a stronger military that is equipped to deliver increased security for Canadians.
We look forward to working closely with Kevin in the months ahead and to supporting him as he assumes this mandate. Please join us in offering him a warm welcome to the Defence Team.
