Individual Faces 21 Months In Prison For Threatening To Kill Rep. Mace, Bomb Congressional Office

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 20, 2026) - Today, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) confirmed federal prosecutors are seeking a 21-month prison sentence for an individual who threatened to kill the Congresswoman and detonate explosives at her Congressional office in a series of threatening communications sent last year.

The accused transmitted multiple threats via text message and email, explicitly threatening to blow up Rep. Mace's congressional office and murder the Congresswoman if she "stepped outside." The violent threats triggered an immediate investigation.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) swiftly identified and located the individual, executing a search warrant at their residence. During questioning, the suspect confessed to making the threats.

The U.S. Attorney's Office has charged the accused with two federal counts of threatening to kill a federal official and is recommending 21 months in federal prison. She is expected to be formally sentenced and processed in the coming months.

Rep. Mace and her employees will prepare victim impact statements for the trial.

"These threats were credible, they were violent, and they were designed to do great harm," said Congresswoman Mace. "No American should have to fear for their life simply for serving their country. The FBI and federal prosecutors took swift action to ensure my safety and the safety of my employees."

The Congresswoman thanked federal law enforcement for their response and ongoing commitment to protecting Members of Congress and their employees from violent threats.

Threatening a federal official is a serious federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison under 18 U.S.C. § 115. The case serves as a stark reminder such threats have severe legal consequences.
