BOROUGH PRESIDENT GIBSON RELEASES FY'2026 BUDGET PRIORITIES

INVESTS $35.2M IN EDUCATION AND OVER $15M IN HEALTH, HOUSING AND COMMUNITY CENTERS ACROSS THE BRONX

Bronx, NY - On Wednesday, July 30th, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson released her FY 2026 Capital Budget, reaffirming her administration`s focus on equity, opportunity, and access for Bronx residents. This year's budget includes a significant investment of $35.2 million towards education, with a strong focus on STEM and providing more digital resources to Bronx students to close the digital divide. This latest allocation builds on the more than $50 million that Borough President Gibson has already committed to education during her first term, reinforcing her long-standing commitment to investing in Bronx youth and classrooms. Additionally, $4.2 million was allocated to health, supporting hospitals and clinics that continue to battle chronic illness, maternal health disparities, and the ongoing opioid crisis in our borough. The Borough President also committed $13.7 million to housing and community centers, helping foster community and creating safer, cleaner neighborhoods for all Bronxites.

"From education to housing, healthcare, and public safety, this year's FY 2026 capital budget is about uplifting our families and delivering resources that are accessible to all Bronxites," said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. "We are investing in the future of our borough, making sure our students have access to the latest classroom technology, our seniors receive quality healthcare close to home, and our families have safe places to live, gather, and grow."

With a majority of her FY 2026 funding going towards education, Borough President Gibson is directing support to dozens of public schools for STEM labs, computers, smartboards, library renovations, and digital learning tools. These investments aim to provide students with the skills and confidence they need to thrive in an evolving workforce.

Health allocations will add funding to hospitals and clinics across the borough. Investments will go towards updating equipment, expanding healthcare services, and enhancing community outreach programs

The FY 2026 budget also includes $7 million for housing, funding critical capital improvements in affordable housing developments and NYCHA buildings, and $6.7 million for community centers and multipurpose facilities that provide vital services, including youth programming, workforce development, and food assistance.

The Bronx Borough President also allocated $2 million towards economic development, $1.9 million towards Cultural Institutions, $1.4 million towards higher education, $1.2 million to the NYPD, $850,000 to the New York Public Library, and $500,000 for the New York City Department of Sanitation to combat illegal dumping through the installation of security cameras in key locations across the borough.
