WESTLAKE, Ohio - The Palm Beach Atlantic athletic department had 88 student-athletes receive academic achievement awards from the Division 2 Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA). The academic achievement awards recognize the student-athlete's accomplishments in the classroom at the Division II level.
For the first time in the award's history, there were more than 20,000 students recognized for their hard work off the field. 22,756 student-athletes from 202 institutions across DII athletics received the award. Historically, 190,032 student-athletes have received the award since the beginning of the program.
"Since its inception, this program has been dedicated to celebrating the exceptional student-athletes who define excellence across our Division II landscape," said Traci Murphy, vice president for athletics at Daemen University and current D2 ADA President. "This year, we are thrilled to recognize a record number of deserving individuals, reflecting the unprecedented dedication within our division - not only in athletics, but in the classroom as well. This year's record-breaking submissions for both individuals and schools serve as a testament to the Division II way. Thanks to the administrators that nominated these outstanding individuals, and much-deserved congratulations to our 22,000-plus recipients."
The Sunshine State Conference was well represented with 1,525 student-athletes receiving the award.
In order for a student-athlete to be eligible to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and must have been an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team during the last academic year.
