Farry, Marcell to Address Urgent Need for Action on Felony Murder Sentencing

July 21, 2026

WHAT: Sen. Frank Farry (R-6) will host a press conference tomorrow at 10 a.m. to discuss the need for immediate legislative action to address Pennsylvania's second-degree murder sentencing laws before the Supreme Court-imposed deadline of July 24.

Following a March Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling that found mandatory life-without-parole sentences for second-degree murder unconstitutional, the General Assembly was directed to establish a new sentencing framework. Without legislative action by the July 24 deadline, convicted second-degree murderers across the commonwealth will be able to petition the courts for resentencing and potential release. The Senate has twice passed legislation to address the issue, but the House has not yet acted.

WHO: Sen. Frank Farry (R-Bucks); Rep. Kristin Marcell (R-Bucks), Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia); Rep. Joe Hogan (R-Bucks); and others.
WHERE: Sen. Farry's District Office, 370 E. Maple Ave., Langhorne

WHEN: Tuesday, July 21, at 10 a.m.
