The Tunnels to Towers (T2T) Fort Worth 5K Run & Walk was established in 2019 in memory of Fort Worth Police Officer Garett Hull, who was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 14, 2018. Following his passing, the foundation paid off his family's mortgage, a gesture that inspired the launch of the local Fort Worth event. Today, the Fort Worth Run & Walk is one of over 70 events nationwide that unite communities in honoring our nation's heroes.
The opening ceremonies will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, and the 5K Run & Walk will start at 8:45 a.m. The event will start and finish at the Fort Worth Stockyards, 140 E. Exchange Ave.
The Tunnel to Towers Run & Walk series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on Sept. 11, 2001. After strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers, Siller died while working to save the lives of those trapped and injured in the towers.
To honor all of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 and support local first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty, T2T supports four programs to assist our nation's heroes and their families during times of unimaginable need:
