UPDATE - Crash involving GPD vehicle

GREENSBORO, NC (June 15, 2026) - High Point Police have charged a former Greensboro Police officer in connection with a May 3 crash.

Haley Maeurer, 25, was charged today with misdemeanor death by vehicle and speeding. Maeurer, who was working as a patrol officer, was responding to assist another officer at the time of the crash.

The Greensboro Police Department requested that High Point Police Department's Traffic Unit conduct the crash investigation, which determined Maeurer did not have her emergency lights or siren activated prior to the collision.

The patrol vehicle hit the front passenger door on the other vehicle. The passenger, Xavier T. Crosson, 35, of Climax, died from his injuries on May 16. The driver of the other vehicle was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Maeurer voluntarily resigned from the police department.

This remains an ongoing investigation. An update will be provided by High Point Police once additional information becomes available for release.

"We understand the gravity of this situation and the importance of accountability. Any loss of life is difficult, especially within our community," said Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal. "Our community's safety is a top priority and we are committed to ensuring our department directives and extensive officer training reflect that."
