Windows of Understanding Returns

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (January 25, 2026) - The 2026 Windows of Understanding Social Justice Public Art Initiative is back for its latest season, transforming the storefronts and public spaces of New Brunswick and surrounding communities into a sprawling outdoor gallery.

This year's theme, "Mobilizing Change," highlights the literal and figurative movement required to bring essential resources to local communities, ranging from food, transportation, hygiene products, healthcare and immigration advocacy.

Now in its ninth year, the project pairs local student and professional artists with non-profit organizations to create site-specific visual stories. These "windows" serve as a creative antidote to cultural polarization, aiming to educate the public on critical social justice issues while promoting cross-cultural empathy.

The windows will be on display now through March 31. Visit Windows of Understanding for exhibition locations and a list of free public events.
