Upon the request from the Counter Terrorism Centre of the Presidium of the Police Force of the Slovak Ministry of Interior, the event, entitled "Preventing radicalisation in Slovakia: Security and community pathways via layered prevention strategies", brought together 17 participants (e.g., counterterrorism police, city police, psychologists and mental health professionals, educators, social workers, human rights advocates, community organisers) as well as experts/speakers from Portugal, Austria, Denmark, Spain, and Sweden. By focusing on Slovakia's national panorama and situating it within the wider EU framework, the sessions highlighted the importance of coordinated action across diverse actors and levels of intervention.
The event began with an exploration of current trends and emerging threats in the EU, situating national realities within broader European dynamics. It then examined the role of key stakeholders in Slovakia in light of the country's extremist state-of-play, emphasising the need for alignment and coherence across - and between - (non)governmental and civil society institutions. Particular attention was devoted to youth and young adults, recognised as a priority group in both primary and secondary prevention strategies, given their heightened exposure to social, cultural, and digital vulnerabilities. Building on this, other sessions also addressed secondary and tertiary approaches with potentially vulnerable and at-risk youth, stressing the importance of tailored interventions that combine protection, rehabilitation, and (re)integration.
