American Community Survey Month

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

American Community Survey Month

WHEREAS, the American Community Survey (ACS), fielded annually by the U.S. Census Bureau, is designed to provide timely, reliable, and comprehensive demographic, social, economic, and housing data that informs decisions affecting communities across the Commonwealth and the Nation; and

WHEREAS, data collected through the ACS paints a statistical portrait that facilitates informed decision-making by federal, state, and local governments, businesses, nonprofit organizations, researchers, and community leaders, helping to guide planning, funding, and the effective delivery of public services; and

WHEREAS, ACS data is used to support transportation planning, housing and community development, education, disaster preparedness, healthcare, workforce development, and economic growth, benefiting Virginians in every region of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, participation in the American Community Survey helps ensure that Virginia's communities are accurately represented, enabling policymakers and stakeholders to understand the needs, opportunities, and changing characteristics of the Commonwealth's population; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth recognizes the importance of encouraging awareness of the American Community Survey to ensure broad public participation in strengthening the accuracy and usefulness of the information it provides;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize August 2026 as AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
