Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins was today awarded the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) Congressional Medicaid Champion Award. ANCOR, a nonpartisan network of providers for people with disabilities, gives this award in recognition of outstanding leadership to members of Congress who fight to strengthen Medicaid-funded intellectual and developmental disabilities services. Senator Collins received the award for her advocacy for Medicaid and people with disabilities during this year's budget reconciliation process and consideration of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

"Receiving this award from ANCOR is a tremendous honor, and I am grateful to Barbara Merrill and the leadership of this association for the recognition," said Senator Collins. "Throughout my Senate service, protecting Medicaid has been one of my highest priorities as Medicaid is essential in supporting rural hospitals, disabled and older Americans, and many families across the state of Maine. A civilization is judged by how we treat those who are the least fortunate-we must let that guide our work."

ANCOR President and fellow Mainer, Barbara Merrill, introduced the Senator.

"In 2017, when not once, not twice, three times, not four times, but five times, the Affordable Care Act was at risk of being repealed-and alongside it, converting Medicaid from an entitlement program where the federal government, within certain limits, matches state dollars, to a block grant program or per capita program-because of Senator Collins's incredibly brave vote, along with the late, great Senator John McCain and Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski, we stopped it. And then, as recently as July, Senator Collins, again, was one of the only three Republicans in the Senate to vote against HR 1 that included almost a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicaid programs," said ANCOR President Barbara Merrill during her remarks at the ceremony.
