As colorful leaves begin to fall, the City encourages residents to keep them out of streets and landfills.
Proper disposal is important, as fallen leaves can clog storm drains and cause standing water on roadways, creating hazardous conditions for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. Large piles of heavy, wet leaves are hard for street sweepers to pick up.
When organic waste, such as leaves, decomposes in landfills, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas.
Now through Dec. 31, residents can use Fall Leaf Disposal Coupons to drop off up to five cubic yards of leaves at one of five designated sites at no charge.
Leaves may also be composted at home or mulched and used in yards or landscaped areas. Mulched leaves help suppress weeds and provide winter cover for pollinators. Residents with Organics service can place leaves in curbside carts.
