City Attorney Wes Duncan Announces Domestic Battery, First Offense Conviction

The Sparks City Attorney's Office has announced that its prosecutor secured a conviction against Ahsan FAROOQ, for Domestic Battery, 1st offense, stemming from an incident that occurred on December 29, 2025.

On December 29, 2025, Sparks Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence located in Sparks, NV, following a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. The caller, Ahsan FAROOQ, stated he had been involved in a verbal argument with his wife.

Upon arrival, officers contacted both involved parties. FAROOQ was located inside the residence's garage, while the victim met officers at the front door and allowed them to enter. The victim reported that she and Farooq had been arguing over multiple ongoing family matters, including financial stress. She stated she had previously stopped working at FAROOQ'S request and that he maintained control over various aspects of her daily life, including household finances.

During the argument, the victim reported that FAROOQ'S sister arrived at the residence, prompting her to leave temporarily because of prior conflict between them. When she returned, FAROOQ became upset, which escalated the argument. The victim stated that during this confrontation, FAROOQ slapped her across the right cheek with an open hand. Although she declined medical attention, she described continued pain characterized as "burning."

Officers examined the victim's face and neck area and did not observe visible injury. The victim reported that the couple's three children witnessed the incident, and two of the children confirmed to officers that they observed their father strike their mother.

Another officer spoke separately with FAROOQ, who stated he had undergone dental surgery earlier in the day and was experiencing pain. He told officers he attempted to separate himself from the argument by going into the garage, stating the victim followed him, and he admitted to pushing her away.

Officers placed FAROOQ under arrest based on statements provided and witness accounts. He was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility and booked on charges of Domestic Battery, 1st offense, and Domestic Battery in the Presence of a Child.

On July 28, 2026, a Senior Assistant City Attorney represented the City of Sparks and secured a conviction for Domestic Battery, 1st offense, against the Defendant.

"Prosecuting crimes of domestic violence continues to be a top priority for the Sparks City Attorney's Office," said Sparks City Attorney Wes Duncan.
