On June 24, 2026, just before 8:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service officers arrested a 28-year-old man regarding a carjacking that had occurred earlier in the parking lot of a commercial business area in the 500 block of Regent Avenue West.
Just after 6:00 p.m., a man approached the parked vehicle of a 40-year-old victim and her daughter, while armed with a handgun and demanded the keys to her vehicle. The victim and her daughter were able to escape to a safe location by entering into a commercial business nearby.
The suspect approached another parked vehicle in the parking lot and demanded the car keys from a 43-year-old victim while pointing a handgun at him. The victim started his vehicle in an attempt to leave when the suspect shot out the driver's side window, causing it to shatter. The victim got out and the suspect fled in his 2016 Dodge Ram 1500. It was recovered abandoned a short time later.
East District General Patrol officers located the man at a commercial business in the 200 block of Melrose Avenue where he was arrested without incident.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.
