Remembrance Sunday - We Will Remember Them

Published on Thursday 6 November 2025

…They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest We Forget

Angus Provost Craig Fotheringham -

"This Remembrance Sunday (9 November) services will be held, along with parades across Angus and the laying of wreaths, in honour of all those who gave their lives in defence of our freedoms.

"Please, if you have not already planned to do and you are able, I would encourage you all, take a small amount of your time to join others in your community at one of these important events and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"If you're unable to make it along then, I would request that you to take a moment out of your day to quietly reflect, whether alone or with friends and family, and remember the fallen.

"Tuesday is 11 November - Armistice Day - which presents us with another opportunity to pay our respects. At 11am, whether at home or at your work, and if you can do so, stop what you are doing, and pay two minutes silent tribute to the selflessness and bravery of our Armed Services.

"We must and will remember them.

"I also take this opportunity to offer our thanks to those service men and women who continue to serve our country both near and far. As they protect us, we will support them. Always.

"These past years have witnessed increasingly uncertain times, with the cruelty of war relayed to us across a diversity of media. None of us should be ignorant or inured to the threats and challenges facing the world today, nor of the courage of those who are called to arms.

"As we remember the fallen of past conflicts, we must also hope and pray for peace now - an armistice for all wars that are taking place in the world. We must see an end to the dreadful loss of innocent lives and secure long-term resolutions for peace through diplomacy."
