UM Charles Regional Medical Center Recognized Among Nation's Cleanest Hospitals

LA PLATA, Md. (May 27, 2026) - University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (UM Charles Regional), a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System, has been recognized on Becker's Hospital Review's list of the "396 cleanest hospitals" in the nation after earning a 5-star cleanliness rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

UM Charles Regional is one of only three hospitals in Maryland to receive this distinction.

The recognition is based on results from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, a national standardized survey that measures patients' perspectives on in-patient hospital care. The cleanliness ratings reflect survey responses from patients between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.

Nationwide, only 396 hospitals received a 5-star cleanliness rating from CMS.

"This recognition reflects the dedication and commitment of our entire team to providing a safe, comfortable and high-quality environment for every patient who walks through our doors," said Albert Zanger, chief administrative officer of UM Charles Regional. "Cleanliness is an essential part of the patient experience and plays a critical role in patient safety, trust and overall care."
