Dallas ISD News: Your guide to Dallas ISD enrollment: Five registration FAQS and tips

To help families navigate the upcoming school year, below are the top five most frequently asked questions, along with critical registration tips.

1. How do I find out which school my child is assigned to?

Your student's designated school is determined by your home address and their current grade level: elementary, middle, or high school.

• Visit dallasisd.org/enroll and select Find Your School. This website will take you directly to the district's School Finder tool. Simply type in your home address and select your student's grade level to instantly see your assigned neighborhood campus.

1. What documents do I need to enroll my student, and what are my options?

Parents and guardians must provide the following standard documentation:

• Proof of address (such as a utility bill)
• Student's birth certificate
• Parent or legal guardian photo ID
• Previous school records and current immunization records (if available)

Students can enroll in their designated neighborhood school. If they want to attend a different campus such as a magnet, transformation, or dual language school, a transfer application must be submitted. Space is limited and applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

1. What happens if my student is placed on a school waitlist?

If a specialized campus or Legacy transfer school does not have immediate capacity, your student will be placed on a waitlist. Students who applied during the first or second application rounds without an open seat are placed on a waitlist. If a spot opens up, the school will contact the next person in line. For Legacy transfers, most campuses are open, though a few remain completely closed due to building capacity. If a school runs out of seats for a specific grade, applicants go to the waitlist and are notified if a spot becomes available.

1. When is the next Choice application window, and how does it work?

The primary application window (round 1) for the 2027-2028 school year runs annually from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31. The 2026-2027 round 3 applications will open on July 13. Parents can select up to five schools on their application. Out of those five choices, a maximum of two can be magnet schools. Once the window closes, parents are typically notified in March.

1. Where can I go to get in-person, bilingual assistance?

While the district highly recommends visiting your child's campus directly for assistance, the ONE Center operates three distinct, fully bilingual (English/Spanish) locations. Visitors can drop by from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday or call the hotline at 972-925-5560. When calling the hotline, share your home address with the representative so they can direct you to the center closest to your neighborhood.
