City of Atlanta Launches Atlanta Free Public Wi-Fi Network

ATLANTA-Mayor Andre Dickens joined City leaders and project partners today to launch Atlanta Free, a new public Wi-Fi network that provides free internet access in key areas of Downtown Atlanta.

The launch marks the first phase of Integrated Atlanta, a broader effort to expand public Wi-Fi access across the city.

Atlanta Free is now available in areas including Centennial Olympic Park, City Hall and the Atlanta University Center. The network is designed to help residents, students, workers and visitors stay connected while accessing information, navigating Downtown and participating in major events.

"Atlanta has emerged as one of the top technology hubs in the country, and that growth depends on strong digital infrastructure," said Mayor Andre Dickens. "Atlanta Free expands access to connectivity in the heart of our city and represents another investment in Atlanta's future as a global center for innovation, business and opportunity."

The initial deployment includes 222 access points across Downtown Atlanta: • 147 in the Centennial Olympic Park area • 43 around City Hall • 32 serving the Atlanta University Center

The City partnered with Comcast Business and Georgia Power to deliver the project, with technology support from Juganu.

The network includes built-in security features designed to help protect users and support a safe browsing experience. Users connect through an authentication portal, and the system incorporates network segmentation, content filtering and threat protection measures.

"Reliable internet access is something people expect and depend on every day," said Jason Sankey, Chief Information Officer for the City of Atlanta. "Atlanta Free gives residents and visitors another way to stay connected while they're in Downtown Atlanta, and it's an important first step in our broader effort to expand public Wi-Fi across the city."

Atlanta Free launches as Atlanta welcomes visitors from around the world for FIFA World Cup 2026™, but the network is intended to serve the city long after the tournament ends. Future phases will expand coverage to additional areas across Atlanta.

Users can connect by selecting "Atlanta Free" from available Wi-Fi networks on their device.
