SU Give Day aims to raise $25 million for Southern University System campuses

The Southern University System Foundation is calling on all Southern University alumni, students, faculty, staff, and supporters to unite for its annual SU Give Day on Thursday, Aug. 27. This all-day virtual event, streamed live on Southern's Facebook page, is the final appeal for the Foundation's "Are You In?" campaign. This year's goal is $25 million.
The goal is to rally support and secure philanthropic contributions for Southern's five campuses - Southern University and A&M College, Southern University at New Orleans, Southern University Shreveport, Southern University Law Center, and Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center - as well as the Southern University Laboratory School.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., SU Give Day will feature a series of panel discussions and presentations, hosted by Cumulus Media on-air personality LaTangela Sherman, live from the Valdry Center for Philanthropy on the Baton Rouge campus. The schedule includes:
- 9 a.m. - Chancellor's Session: A conversation with the chancellors of the Southern University System: John K. Pierre (Baton Rouge), Dr. Joseph Bouie Jr. (Southern University at New Orleans), Aubra Gantt (Southern University at Shreveport), Alvin Washington (Southern University Law Center), and Dr. Orlando McMeans (Southern University Ag Center and interim president of the Southern University System).
- 10 a.m. - Shreveport Campus Session: A live session from Southern University at Shreveport highlighting the campus and its role within the Southern University System.
- 11 a.m. - Southern University Alumni Federation Feature: Howard White, president of the Southern University Alumni Federation, and Darrin Dixon, executive director of the Southern University Alumni Federation, will discuss the federation's role in supporting Southern University.
- Noon - New Orleans Campus Session: A live session from Southern University at New Orleans highlighting the campus and its contributions to the Southern University System.
- 1 p.m. - Southern Law Center Session: A live session from the Valdry Center for Philanthropy highlighting Southern University Law Center.
- 2 p.m. - Student Sessions: Two student panels will take place live from the Baton Rouge campus. The first will feature student representatives from across the Southern University System, while the second will highlight students involved in campus life and activities.
- 3 p.m. - Special Commitment Announcement: A major new commitment supporting the Southern University System will be announced live from the Valdry Center for Philanthropy.
- 4 p.m. - Southern University Ag Center Campus Session: A live session featuring the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center and its work across Louisiana.
- 5 p.m. - Closing Appeal: Southern's Student Philanthropy Council will close the day with a call to action encouraging continued support of the University.
