During an episode of the ABA Banking Journal Podcast, Pathward's Chief Executive Officer, Brett Pharr, spoke with Evan Sparks, Editor-in-Chief of the ABA Banking Journal and host of its podcast.
In the conversation, the two discussed how the partner banking business model is evolving. Pharr shared his perspective on the growing role of fintechs and digital innovations in meeting consumer and small business needs.
"There is now a broadening of the product center… so [users are asking for] more than a single account. They need faster payments, early wage access, better access to certain kinds of consumer lending. On the small business side, embedded finance - all of which are now able to be delivered through this third-party delivery model where there is a bank that is the backbone of what is happening, but the face, the front, is a partner."
The two also discussed the regulatory evolution of the banking-as-a-service sector, best practices for third-party risk management in partner banking and the impact of artificial intelligence.
