December 17, 2025

Kavita Daiya, associate dean of academic innovation at the College of Professional Studies and professor of English and women's, gender, and sexuality studies, authored the entry "Partition Migrations" in "The SAGE Encyclopedia of Refugee Studies, Volume 2." The leading reference work examines displacement and forced migration in the modern world.

Edited by members of the Critical Refugee Studies Collective, the encyclopedia addresses refugees and displacement as defining issues of the 21st century, with more than 70 million people forcibly displaced worldwide. The two-volume set includes more than 250 authoritative articles organized around themes such as law, politics, policy and humanitarianism. The writing draws on interdisciplinary perspectives to critically examine refugee experiences and global systems of power.

Daiya is the recipient of several honors, including the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences Award for Excellence in Graduate Faculty Mentoring in 2022, and she founded and directs the Immigration and Migration Studies micro-minor in CCAS.
