Cedar Point Federal Credit Union® recently provided the St. Mary's County Public Schools Shoe Fund with 41 pairs of shoes for 22 local families, helping students step into the new school year with confidence.
The St. Mary's County Public Schools Shoe Fund provides shoes to students in Pre-K through 12th grade who need them. This initiative is funded entirely through community support, consisting of donations from businesses and individuals alike.
"Participating in this initiative was especially meaningful to me because I remember how important it was to have a new pair of shoes at the start of a school year," says Shellie Matthews, Operations Manager at Cedar Point. "It provided a sense of confidence, allowed us to express our individuality, and made us excited for the year ahead. I hope today's students experience those same feelings of pride, confidence, and optimism… [and that] this small act helps inspire a positive and productive school year for each child we serve."
Wayne Suite, Member Service Representative, had similar feelings about participating. "I believe that when we are in a position to help others, we have a responsibility to do so," says Suite. "If I were ever in a difficult situation, I would hope that someone would be willing to help me as well. We all have the ability to make a positive difference in someone else's life, no matter how small the gesture may seem."
