Palestine: FAPaJ demands protection and accountability for Palestinian journalists

On the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Journalists on September 26, the Federation of Asia-Pacific Journalists (FAPaJ) stands with the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) and with our colleagues, of whom 262 have been targeted and killed since 2023.

We join the PJS in their call for "not merely solidarity in words, but protection in the field and accountability in the courts."

In this light, the Federation pledges to work with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on programs to provide genuine protection as well as logistical and medical support for Palestinian journalists.

We will continue to condemn the attacks on and the targeting of journalists and call for independent and transparent international processes for accountability for the deaths, injuries, and arrests of our colleagues.

We will also continue to call for media access and free movement in the Gaza Strip as well as editorial independence in coverage.

We call on FAPaJ affiliates to do the same in coordination with the federations, with fellow unions in our regions, and in our home countries.
