Frostburg State University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce "Strings Through Time: A Guitar Ensemble & Studio Recital," featuring talented student and faculty guitarists on Wednesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public and will also be live-streamed. Viewers can access the livestream by visiting https://www.frostburg.edu/concerts.
The program showcases a diverse selection of classical and contemporary works for guitar, highlighting both solo and ensemble performances. Featured guitarists include Nicholas Mellen, Raymond Gibson, Eleanor Spence and lecturer of guitar Dr. Felipe Garibaldi.
This engaging evening offers audiences a journey through time and style, from Baroque masterpieces to modern compositions, all performed on classical guitar. The studio portion of the recital opens with two duets: Spence and Garibaldi performing Filho's "Pequeno Prelúdio"; and Gibson and Garibaldi performing York's "Snowflight" and "Spider Dance", as arranged by Dr. Garibaldi. Followed by soloist Mellen performing Villa-Lobos' "Prelude No. 1" and Brouwer's "Danza Característica". Concluding with trio Mellen, Gibson, and Garibaldi performing Lecuona's "Malagueña", as arranged by Dr. Garibaldi.
The recital will close with the FSU Guitar Ensemble performing "Americana, Op. 96a" (I. Broadway) by John Duarte; the traditional "Wayfaring Stranger," arranged by FSU Guitar Ensemble; and "Canarios" by Gaspar Sanz.
