The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans for the replacement of noise barriers along I-84 eastbound for the 2028 construction season in New Britain and Farmington.
The project primarily involves replacement of two wooden noise barriers along I-84 Eastbound in city of New Britian and town of Farmington. The existing noise barriers have deteriorated beyond repair and can no longer be maintained. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) proposes replacing both wooden noise barriers with precast concrete barriers while maintaining the barrier alignments and heights. The first noise barrier is approximately 2,000 feet long and begins on on-ramp 84-E-183 (Interchange 36) at mile point 50.96 and ends at mile point 51.35. The second noise barrier is approximately 2,300 feet long and begins near mile point 51.68 and ends at mile point 52.12. The second noise barrier begins in New Britain and crosses into Farmington.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in September 2027, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2028, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, receipt of any required right-of-way, and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with one hundred percent (100%) State funds.
At this time, a public informational meeting is not anticipated as this project's scope is considered routine maintenance.
