Shanghai, Sep 16 - TÜV Rheinland Greater China, a leading international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization, has issued the Eye Comfort (5-Star) certification to Seiko Epson Corporation's latest 3LCD smart projector Lifestudio Flex EF-72. This projector is powered by TRIPLE CORE ENGINE technology, delivering crystal-clear vivid images. The certification represents Seiko Epson's advancement in eye-friendly projector technology, delivering picture quality and sophisticated ambient-light adaptability for a more comfortable viewing experience.
Projectors are widely used in meeting rooms, classrooms and homes, offering scalable and flexible display solutions. Unlike liquid-crystal televisions, projectors operate on distinct optical principles, and their performance can vary depending on installation and ambient lighting conditions. To address real-world usage scenarios, TÜV Rheinland conducts rigorous testing and evaluation based on international standards, focusing on key metrics that influence viewing comfort. This enables manufacturers to satisfy users' demand for strain-free viewing.
The Eye Comfort (5-Star) certification for projectors evaluates performance across four dimensions: image quality, ambient-light adaptability, vision-care technologies and user guidance. Products are awarded three, four or five stars, with a higher star rating indicating superior performance across all dimensions.
Image-quality assessment examines maximum brightness, black-level rendering, uniformity, contrast, white balance, colour accuracy, colour gamut and response time to keep images consistent that reduce visual fatigue, as well as rainbow effect is evaluated to reduce visual discomfort. Ambient-light adaptability is verified by measuring contrast and colour shift under various indoor lighting conditions, ensuring comfortable viewing in real-world settings. Vision-care technologies cover hardware- and software-level low-blue-light and flicker-free solutions that reduce harmful blue-band energy without compromising colour fidelity, while a flicker-free light source maintains visual stability.
TÜV Rheinland introduced the Eye Comfort certification program in 2015 and has continued to update the standards to reflect technological advancement and market trends, expanding its application to new product categories. In 2023 the institute upgraded the Eye Comfort rating scheme to five stars for monitors; in 2024 it extended coverage to notebook computers and AR glasses; this year the scope has grown to include in-vehicle displays and projectors.
Drawing on extensive experience in display performance and eye-health protection, TÜV Rheinland delivers tailored testing and certification solutions that support corporate innovation and product iteration while offering consumers authoritative guidance for selecting high-quality, eye-friendly devices.
