Intermittent right-turn lane closures planned on Whitton Expressway…

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Several right-turn lanes on U.S. Route 50 (Whitton Expressway) in Jefferson City will close intermittently over the next several weeks.

Starting Nov. 6, and continuing into December, crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation will upgrade pedestrian facilities on Whitton Expressway at Broadway Street, Jefferson Street, Madison Street, and Monroe Street. Work zones will be active between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. While all through lanes will remain open, turn restrictions will be in place when crews are working at the following locations:

  • Broadway Street right-turn lane to westbound U.S. Route 50 closed.
  • Westbound U.S. Route 50 right-turn lane to Broadway Street closed.
  • Jefferson Street right-turn lane to westbound U.S. Route 50 closed.
  • Monroe Street right-turn lane to westbound U.S. Route 50 closed.
  • Westbound U.S. Route 50 right-turn lane to Monroe Street closed.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

This work is part of a larger project spanning multiple locations across Jefferson City, Wardsville, Taos, and Frankenstein. Planned improvements include sidewalks, curb ramps, and pavement approaches to bring them into compliance with the current standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). At their June 2025 meeting, the Missouri Department of Transportation awarded a $1,293,885.30 contract to Concrete Solution LLC to complete the project. By contract, the project is scheduled for completion by Dec. 15, 2025.
