Stony Brook University's Office of Marketing and Communications won four 2025 Best of CASE District II Awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
CASE, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, recognizes and celebrates outstanding programs and individuals in advancement services, alumni relations, communications, fundraising, and marketing.
Stony Brook University Magazine won for Design: Magazines and Periodicals, for its entry featuring the issues for Spring 2024 and Winter 2024/2025. Available in print and online, the Magazine uses stunning photography and in-depth storytelling to bring to life the people and initiatives that make Stony Brook the flagship university of New York. The two themed issues showed how the university was moving forward and burning new trails.
Robert Emproto's story in SBU News, "Stony Brook Team Gets Up-Close Look at the Future of Offshore Wind Energy," won for Writing: News/Feature (Less than 1,000 words). The story is about a 50-person multidisciplinary team from Stony Brook that embarked on a research vessel and visited an installation of five diesel generators that powered Block Island, getting a rare close-up look at the wind turbines.
A video by visual storyteller Dennis Murray - "Yarn: An Artist's Life Reimagined at the Wang Center" - won in the category of Videos: Student Audience (Long).
The video is about world-renowned crochet artist Mulyana (Mang Moel), who has spent much of his 40 years pursuing his passions and breaking through stereotypes while sharing his colorful creations. It accompanies the SBU News story written by Ellen Cooke, with photography by John Griffin.
Griffin also won for his photo, "Commencement Selfie," taken at Stony Brook's 2024 Commencement Main Ceremony at LaValle Stadium. While standing on the main stage, Griffin had a better angle to capture the jubilation on the graduates faces as the confetti fell.
