UA Remains Top Producer of Fulbright Students

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - For the ninth time in the past 11 years, The University of Alabama has earned the distinction of being named a Top Producing Institution of Fulbright Students.

Founded in 1946, the Fulbright Program aims to increase mutual understanding and support friendly and peaceful relations between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

"The Fulbright Program creates powerful opportunities for students to engage with the world, and The University of Alabama has long been committed to leading in this space," UA President Peter J. Mohler said. "Being recognized again as a Top Producing Institution reflects the caliber of our students and the guidance and support we provide to prepare them to think globally, lead with purpose and make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond."

The Fulbright Program selected 15 UA students for various awards for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Fulbright Award of the U.S. Department of State offers one-year grants for independent study and research, and for English teaching assistantships overseas. The highly competitive program selects approximately 1,500 award recipients from more than 11,000 applicants annually.

"As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, so too the Fulbright Program is reaching a significant milestone as it celebrates its 80th anniversary this year," said Dr. Teresa Wise, associate provost for international education and global outreach. "As a bold investment in global peace and American prosperity through educational and cultural exchange, Fulbright is a part of our country's legacy.

"UA is immensely proud of our students' achievements and to once again be named a top producer in the U.S. Student Fulbright competition. We know that our students will be transformed by their experiences abroad while also contributing to their assigned communities and to the aspirational, but achievable, goals of the Fulbright Program."
