National Farmers Day

National Farmers Day

October 12, 2025

Today is National Farmer's Day: a time to honor the incredible men and women whose hard work feeds our families, fuels our economy, and sustains our communities.

Here in Illinois, farming isn't just an industry, it's a way of life. According to the Illinois Farm Bureau, agriculture and related sectors support over 482,000 jobs across our state. Out of the 72,200 farms that call Illinois home, an inspiring 96% are family-owned, often passed down through generations with deep pride and perseverance.

Illinois consistently ranks among the top agricultural producers in the nation: #1 in soybeans, #2 in corn, and #4 in pork production. And with 2,640 food manufacturing companies, we are a national leader in transforming our rich harvests into food and goods - contributing billions in processed food sales, the highest in the country.

These numbers tell a story of excellence, resilience, and commitment - but behind each number is a farmer rising before dawn, working through every season, and investing in the future of our land and our people.

Today, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie joins communities across the state in celebrating and thanking our Illinois farmers for their grit, their heart, and their unwavering dedication to putting food on our tables.
