Geomatics Program Receives National Professional Education Award; $10,000 Prize

Oregon Tech's Geomatics program has received a 2026 National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Surveying Education Award. The award is a measure of a program's success in inspiring its graduates to achieve their highest educational and professional aspirations.

The NCEES Surveying Education Award recognizes surveying/geomatics programs that best reflect NCEES' mission to advance licensure for surveyors to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Universities from across the U.S. applied, and only six were awarded prizes ranging from $25,000 to $10,000.

At Oregon Tech, the Geomatics program equips students to become land surveyors and/or geospatial professionals by teaching them to use high-performance geospatial equipment and systems.

Students focusing on surveying use computer systems and equipment to find and define property lines, plan subdivisions to create effective designs, map boundary limits, write deed descriptions relative to property boundaries, and more.

The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) option prepares students to design and construct workflows to collect, edit, analyze, store, and visualize geospatial information while preparing them to become certified GIS professionals.

Both programs provide the essentials for students to apply for the Civil Engineering Cooperative Program for two 6-month internships during their junior year and for employment and licensure after graduation.
