BSC launching two-year program to train defense technology technicians; scholarships available

Published: Jun 09 2026

Bismarck State College (BSC) is proud to announce that we have reached an agreement with AeroVironment (AV), located in Germantown, Md., to support the training of defense technology technicians.

BSC has been formalizing the AV relationship since 2024. BSC's scope of work will initiate a pilot project to train technicians who will be capable of operating, installing, maintaining, and repairing specialized technology used in the defense industry. BSC's program will provide AV with trained talent to integrate advanced detection systems into U.S. defense readiness strategies.

The agreement will lead to the establishment of a Defense Technology Technician Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, which will require the BSC Automation, Energy, and Advanced Technology (AEAT) Division to recruit six students to start in the fall of 2026. This new pilot program will provide scholarship opportunities for students interested in becoming part of a defense technology program.
