Washington Democrats Put Americans Last Every Time

Since President Trump was elected, Washington Democrats have stood opposed to his agenda. They voted against the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, which delivered no taxes on tips, no taxes on overtime, no taxes on Social Security, an expanded child tax credit and standard deduction, tax relief for small businesses, funding to secure our southern border and funding for our national defense. Now, Washington Democrats - led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries - are opposing a bill to keep government funded unless Republicans agree to their policy demands that reverse many of President Trump's key successes. Effectively, they are demanding that Republicans put them in charge in exchange for them voting to keep the government open. It's an outrageous ask, and now the federal government is on the brink of a shutdown because of their irresponsible demands.

House Republicans passed a bill to keep the government open for 7 additional weeks, but Senate Democrats voted in unison to block this bill from moving forward. This is a commonsense, noncontroversial measure that both Republicans and Democrats have supported numerous times in the past to keep the government's lights on, yet Senate Democrats are standing in the way to appease their radical, Leftist base.

What are they fighting for? Let me tell you. Washington Democrat leaders have demanded that a laundry list of radical, extremist provisions be added to the bill or they will shut down government - including taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for minors, over $1 trillion in new spending to continue free health care for illegal aliens, and allowing biological men to play in women's sports. It is unbelievable that while millions of Americans are worried about whether they will receive their next paycheck, this is what Washington Democrats are fighting for.

To make matters worse, Democrats are demanding the repeal of signature provisions from President Trump's recently enacted working families tax cuts in The One, Big, Beautiful Bill. They seek to roll back extremely popular provisions that have allowed our southern border to be fully secured, as well as the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program that will help prevent more rural hospital closures in southeast and southcentral Missouri. The message is clear: Washington Democrats would rather prioritize health care for illegal immigrants over access to care for rural Missourians. They should be ashamed.

While American families are still recovering from record inflation, high interest rates, and shrinking paychecks thanks to Joe Biden's failed economy, the last thing they need is more uncertainty brought on by far-Left social experiments shoved into government funding bills. House Republicans will stand firm in putting hardworking, American taxpayers first. We've put forward a responsible plan to keep the government open, and it's the Democrats in the Senate who are choosing brinksmanship and chaos.

Missourians sent me to Washington to fight for common sense, not the radical wish lists written by the far Left. President Trump was exactly right when he said this week that Democrats need to get serious about the future of our nation. Republicans will not allow the Democrat radical base to push an agenda the majority of Americans do not support and voted against. I will continue working to ensure that government stays open, our troops are paid, and rural Missouri families have the support they need. But make no mistake, if there is a shutdown, it will be because Washington Democrats decided their extreme agenda was more important than the livelihoods of working Americans.
