The Republic of Moldova advances in the implementation of the Agreement with France on the recognition of driving licenses

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that the National Assembly of France has adopted the draft law authorizing the approval of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the French Republic on the mutual exchange of driving licenses, signed in Paris on 12 July 2024.

The Agreement establishes the possibility of the mutual exchange of category B driving licenses issued starting from 1 January 2020, without the need to pass additional examinations. For licenses issued prior to this date, prior exchange into national models compliant with current standards is required.

The entry into force of the Agreement is expected after the promulgation of the law. Subsequently, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the French Republic, together with the competent institutions of both states, will publicly communicate the technical and procedural details regarding the implementation of the mechanism for recognition and exchange of driving licenses.
