The UK is the EU's biggest market for new vehicle exports. It is also the biggest export market for EU-made battery-electric vehicles.

This fact sheet looks at vehicle trade flows between the EU and the UK, including a focus on the UK battery-electric car market.

  • Almost 30% of the 5 million EU vehicle exports went to the UK in 2025, worth €42 billion.
  • 60.4% of UK vehicle exports went to the EU in 2025.
  • In terms of value, the EU represents nearly 70% of the UK's vehicle imports.
  • More than one in five EU-made cars exported to the UK in 2025 were battery-electric, worth €10.1 billion.
  • 202,214 commercial vehicles and buses were exported from the EU to the UK in 2025, valuing €6.3 billion.
  • EU-made cars accounted for 66% of UK sales in 2025.
  • Chinese-made cars reached a 14% share of UK sales in 2025, an increase of 52.7% compared to 2024.
