Ascension Texas Releases Inaugural Ministry in Action Report, Highlighting Healthcare Impact Across Central Texas

Ascension Texas, today released its first Ministry in Action Impact Report, a first-of-its-kind look at how the faith-based healthcare system is delivering on its promise to care for Central Texas communities, with special attention to those who are most vulnerable.

The report spans Ascension Texas' full network of hospitals, trauma centers, clinics and care sites across the Austin, Waco and surrounding regions. As a nonprofit, faith-based system, Ascension provides $540 million annually in charity care, a scale of commitment that distinguishes it among Central Texas healthcare providers. The report arrives as the organization enters one of the most ambitious growth periods in its history, including a $230 million investment in Williamson County and a new dedicated women's hospital opening in early summer 2026.

"For over a century, Ascension Texas has been a constant in the Central Texas community," said Jamie Youssef, Ascension Texas CEO. "This report captures the heart of that commitment, highlighting not just the care we provide, but the compassion and collective effort that define our work every single day."

Meeting People Where They Are

In fiscal year 2025, Ascension Texas served 705,000 patients, welcomed more than 11,000 births, and invested $280 million in community care efforts.

Those numbers come to life through programs like Food is the Best Medicine, which has delivered more than 50,000 meals to food-insecure postpartum families since 2023, and the Dispensary of Hope, which provided $866,000 in medication cost savings. The system also launched a Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program at its Level I trauma center, responding to more than 350 victims in its first six months.

Leading in Clinical Quality

Ascension Texas' patient safety performance came in 31.7% above the Premier peer benchmark, with achievements including a 46.9% reduction in postoperative sepsis and stroke response times 33% faster than the national standard. Dell Children's Medical Center was nationally ranked in six pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report, and the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease implanted a Berlin Heart in the youngest patient in the world to receive the device.

Investing in the People Behind the Mission

The report highlights a 12% promotion rate among Ascension Texas team members, as well as 2,677 internal career placements and approximately 100 identified career pathways for associates. The system's Everyday Hero of Safety program saw a 400% increase in nominations, with 54% of departing associates noting they would consider returning.
