Ceasefire now: Global unions demand an end to war in Iran and the Middle East

The IUF, alongside our sister Global Union Federations, calls for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the escalating military conflict in Iran and across the Middle East.

We condemn the recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran that have killed and injured civilians and destroyed critical public infrastructure, including schools and medical facilities.

We are also deeply concerned by Iran's retaliatory attacks. Further military action will only intensify instability, endanger lives, and risk a broader regional catastrophe.

The global trade union movement rejects military confrontation and demands diplomacy, de-escalation, and full respect for international law. We call on the international community to act without delay to halt hostilities, protect civilians and essential infrastructure, and uphold human and labour rights across the region.

We stand in solidarity with workers and independent unions in Iran and throughout the Middle East. The future of Iran, and of the region, must be determined by its people themselves, free from external aggression and internal repression.

Peace, democracy and dignity must prevail over war and repression.
